Kinja'd!!!

To burn off the massive amount of frustration and disappointment shared by many today, I decided that since it’s Wednesday I’d go drag race and go around the drift course at Sonoma and take it out on the car.

The car was 95% ready to go aside from some cleaning supplies in the trunk. I quick blocked the driveway and ran in the loose items and ran back out with my helmet in hand to find out that my car makes one single click noise when I try to start it. It’s not lack of power. It’s 99% a dead starter.

So here I sit with a cocktail in hand, waiting for a tow truck, and trying to convince myself that this is the universe might have just kept me from totaling the thing at the race track. Unlikely, but I’m telling myself anything at this point. I haven’t had a day like this since my cat died.

What’s more expensive to replace, a throttle position actuator or a starter?

Sorry man, but E60s are notorious for being unreliable and troublesome. I know 3 people who had them, bought new and all 3 cars had major vibration issues or transmission or electrical stuff going on within the first year of ownership.

the good news is the starter itself it relatively cheap.

and yes, that is the world saving you from stuffing it. ONCE I went out on the bike after having a HORRENDOUSLY bad day (failed a test, GF of 3 years had dumped me, cat had died the week before)

Nearly wrapped the bike around a pole twice in the first minute. went home and went drinking. Not worth the head and heart ache if you stuff your baby into a wall.

Well for the S65, the throttle actuator is like an 1110 USD part and, there are two of them.

Depends on where the starter is, I’d guess that throttle position actuator

Oh I know. I’m really not all that stressed about the repair. I didn’t buy it to save money. The thing makes me so, so happy.

Just shitty timing, having a bad day and then a really good idea, and then *poof* there that goes.

I’m off to the bar. Fuck it.

Give it a couple taps with a hammer (provided you can reach it).

Hey sir...late to this party, but is it the starter, or the starter solenoid? If the solenoid, you can often whack it with something and make it kick in a few times to at least get it somewhere...?

I can hear the solenoid. It’s also doing one single “something won’t move” click and not the repeated “I’m not hitting anything” click-click-click-click. Good thinking though.
